Boat, bus, plane, train, motorbike, peddle bike, hitchhiking and much much more.
Flights... yes lets start with flights. Book your flight, stop pussy footing around and just do it. I recommend using kayak, Skyscanner and hopper while researching for flight information. They allow you to find and plan for flights in the future. Best to do when your booking the initial flight out and back, or one-way tickets. Now, keep in mind one-way tickets can be more expensive so look into round trip and just not catching the second half. Another heads up, some countries want proof of return. So, with a one-way ticket you will need to book a flight going out of the country. If your plan is similar to mine and your really not sure where your going or when you will head there, there is away around this road block. Once at the airport you are able to , or from your computer, book a flight for return or different location. Then once you arrive at your destination you can go to the service desk of the airline and cancel. Most airlines have a 24hr full refund guarantee. Or print a fake ticket...but you didn't hear that from me. Be careful with this, sometimes immigration or airlines will check your ticket online. The initial flight I would plan to book a couple months in advanced if possible, or book based on Hopper information.
In country flights. For real in country flights can be found for less than $30!! Keep in mind every country differs. If possible use the local airline websites. It will most likely be in a different language, so ask someone to help. Booking directly from the airline website will save you extra taxes and bullshit charges. These flights can also be monitored on Skyscanner and Hopper. Booking at least a couple days in advance is ideal, price will rise as your get closer to departure date. Why in country flights.... because they are CHEAP and save you time. Flights can be found for a cheaper price then bus prices. Weigh out your odds, flying a few hours, maybe, or ride a bus all day/night. Sometimes its worth it to save a couple hours for an equal price.
I will be updating the country pages with more specific information on links and contacts for the particular locations.

Ferries, trains and buses. There are many resources available when looking to get from one destination to another. I recommend talking to your hostel or place of stay. People hosting you have a lot of good information on the local transportation and point you in the right direction. Some hostels or hotels will even book your transportation for you. Talk to people in your hostel, other travelers are also very resourceful. They can help you book tickets through different websites or inform you of the ticket office. Most tickets can be purchased prior to boarding at the local train or bus station. Same goes for ferries. Now, if there are a limited number of spots, a small number ranging between 10-20 it is best to book at least a day earlier to ensure you have a seat. Booking directly at the station will give you the best price. Agencies tack on extra charges.
If your doing a little research ahead of your travels use google search. Check out blogs and local transportation schedules. Schedules are key if your traveling on a timeline. This will help you eliminate any stress you may have when traveling in a crunch.

Other means of transportation, look no further. Renting a motorized vehicle is always a good option. My personal favorite is the motorbike. When renting, it is important to take pictures of the vehicle prior to use. Pictures and insurance give you security and can save you big bucks if an accident does occur. It's always better to be save than sorry, well and say bye bye to your travel funds. Don't be an idiot, wear a helmet and abide by local traffic laws. The last thing you need is your beautiful brain left on the road, to end up in the hospital or pay a traffic fee.
